USFS says the first half mile or so passes the bare granite walls of upper Sabino Canyon. The return on Marshall Gulch is described as a cool, shady canyon. We haven't confirmed hour-by-hour shade. Source: USFS Aspen Trail #93.
Fee and winter road
A Coronado or America the Beautiful pass must be displayed. The page says day-use passes can be purchased at the site for $8. Chains or 4-wheel drive may be required in winter. The trailhead described for the loop is at the end of the road into Marshall Gulch, and you may have to walk the last couple hundred yards when that road is closed. Source: USFS Aspen Trail #93.
